Last year, we had the pleasure of designing and realizing the kitchen for a detached single-family home in Essen.

A small staircase leads down from the entrance into the expansive open-plan living and dining area. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the surrounding greenery, allowing the terrace and garden to flow seamlessly into the interior. At the heart of the house lies a striking natural stone floor, softening the crisp modern architecture and dissolving the boundary between indoors and outdoors.

The kitchen is pared-back and refined, yet warm and inviting. A stainless-steel island and tall cabinets in dark oak create a dialogue between contemporary precision and natural comfort.

The tall unit incorporates a folding-sliding system: four central fronts rotate and glide aside to reveal a fully equipped working kitchen with stainless-steel countertop, sink and faucet, dishwasher, and waste system. When closed, only the elevated oven remains visible.

Set between two pillars, the island appears light and almost floating. It provides generous storage while offering space for shared cooking and conversation – a modern centerpiece that resonates beautifully with the natural palette of stone and wood.
